Bhakti Matzen

There’s a certain kind of guy every great shop needs. Not the loudest. Not the flashiest. But the one who shows up before the lights come on, knows where every tool lives, and can weld, mount tires, and dial in a shop layout without breaking stride. At Berg Performance, that guy is Bhakti Matzen.

Born and raised in Colorado, Bhakti is a product of the mountains, the gravel roads, and the kind of car culture that’s passed down in driveways, not dealerships. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and Automotive Technology, but his real education came from busted knuckles, bad welds turned good, and the patient repetition of learning things the hard way until they stick. Wrenching in basements. Tuning cars in the cold. Shooting photos in golden hour light that made 30-year-old Toyotas look like magazine heroes.

As Berg Performance’s Facilities Manager, Bhakti keeps the place running like a finely tuned rally car; balanced, responsive, and always prepared for the unexpected. He’s as comfortable behind a welder as he is behind a camera lens. In fact, his two greatest passions, cars and photography, have become inseparable over the years.

Bhakti’s garage reads like a love letter to Japanese steel: a ‘91 Nissan D21 drift truck built for therapy through throttle, an ‘81 Toyota Celica that refuses to retire, and a tough little ‘80 Corolla with the right mix of patina and punch. His dream car? An '81 Toyota wagon: boxy, humble, and built to rally spec with his own hands.

What sets Bhakti apart isn’t just his technical know-how, it’s how he sees machines. He doesn’t just work on cars; he studies them, captures them, and tells their stories. His photography and videography work documents more than just vehicles, it captures the people, places, and passion that keep this community moving.

He doesn’t talk about it much, but Bhakti’s got dreams. Big ones. One day, he plans to open his own performance and fabrication shop. Until then, he’s here at Berg Performance running the shop, and helping build something great.
