Angel Tobon, Technician

Angel didn’t grow up around Porsche, Audi, and VW: he found them.

Raised in Iowa, where the days are long and you learn quickly how to occupy your time, Angel gravitated toward anything mechanical. If it came apart, he wanted to understand it. If it broke, he wanted to fix it. That mindset started early and never really left. A small engine repair class in high school gave that curiosity direction, but it was still just the beginning.

The real shift came when his family stepped outside the world of domestic vehicles. His older sister bought an Audi, and for Angel, that was the moment things clicked. The difference in build quality, the precision, the way the car felt engineered rather than just assembled: it stuck with him. From that point on, he knew what kind of cars he wanted to be around.

So he bought one. A manual B8 A4 became both his daily driver and his education. It wasn’t an easy ownership experience. It demanded attention, time, and money, but that’s exactly what shaped him. Every issue became a lesson. Every repair pushed him further into understanding how these cars actually work.

That path led him to Maxwell Auto, where his first mentors helped sharpen his skills while he worked his way through automotive tech school. It was hands-on, real-world experience. Learning not just how to fix cars, but how to think through problems, how to diagnose, and how to approach repairs with precision.

Eventually, Angel wanted more. A change of pace. A new environment. That decision brought him to Colorado, and ultimately to Berg Performance. From the moment he walked into Berg, something stood out. The cleanliness of the shop. The organization. The level of care in how everything was done. It wasn’t just another shop, it was a place where details mattered.

Today, Angel operates in a role that reflects what makes Berg different. He’s not just working on cars, he’s communicating, documenting, and guiding customers through the process. At Berg, the technician is also the service advisor, and Angel leans into that fully.

His day-to-day is built around clarity and precision. Answering questions. Providing detailed insight so customers fully understand what’s happening with their vehicle. Documenting repairs in a way that keeps everyone aligned, from the shop floor to the customer. Every car has a story, and Angel makes sure that story is told clearly.

His philosophy is simple and unwavering: treat every car like it belongs to someone you care about. That transparency is a big part of why customers come back. Do the job right, and stand behind it.

Technically, Angel gravitates toward the work most people shy away from. Heavy-line repairs. Engine removals. Complex jobs that require patience and focus. It’s where he’s most comfortable. Currently working on projects like timing chains on a T2 TDI Touareg paired with lift kit installations. The deeper the job, the better.

Outside the shop, Angel keeps things grounded. You’ll find him outdoors, taking advantage of Colorado with hikes and walks alongside his dog, Bug. He enjoys trying new food spots, unwinding with movies, and keeping life balanced outside the intensity of the shop.

There’s a bit of humor in there too, he’ll tell you he still has all of his 10mm sockets, which, in this industry, might be the most impressive detail of all. And if you notice the scar near his shoulder, there’s a story behind that too, earned the hard way after a fall from a tree in his younger years. It’s a reminder that sometimes learning comes with a little impact.

This summer, Angel steps into a new role, one that matters more than any job in the shop. He’s becoming a father. And like everything else he takes on, he’s approaching it the same way: with intention, accountability, and the drive to do it right.

Angel has quickly proven himself in a place where every detail matters. His methodical approach and sharp attention to precision show up in the work every day, making him a strong fit for this level of craftsmanship.
